About M.C. Escher
Millions of people all over the globe enjoy his art, obviously we're talking about nobody else other than the famous M.C. Escher. He is most famous for his so-called impossible constructions, such as "Ascending and Descending," "Belvedere," "Waterfall," and "Relativity." But also his transformations, including "Metamorphosis I, II, and III," "Sky & Water I," and "Reptiles," are world-renowned. His engravings often depict impossible constructions, studies of infinity, and interlocking geometric patterns (tilings) that gradually transform into completely different forms. Some very well-known depictions he drew are designed around impossible objects like the Penrose stairs. It wasn't until the 1950s that he gained broader recognition as an artist, especially in the US. Crystallographers and mathematicians discovered symmetries and themes from their fields in his work. Escher's graphic work has been used in scientific textbooks since 1960.
